I'm Alicia, an independent game developer and writer. I'm currently a semi-professional student at the University of Toronto, slogging away at a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in English Lit, and Minors in Cinema and Creative Writing.
I began writing poetry at the age of fifteen, and have since expanded my portfolio to include essays, genre fiction, and screenplays. My current projects include a feature length screenplay and a visual novel.
I've been making games using Twine since February 2013. In September 2014, I started tinkering a bit with pixel art and animation, as seen in the experimental demo Ice Cream Dream Date.
After realizing the limitations with Twine, I decided to take the leap and learn to program. I began developing in Unity 3D using C# in January at Toronto Global Game Jam, creating an interactive digital Ouija board embedded with horror-fantasy flash fiction. I'm currently working as a designer and programmer with Mahou Shoujammers to create a magical girl multiplayer party game with custom weapon controller peripherals, Punk Prism Power.
I've also been a proud member of Dames Making Games Toronto for two years. In 2014, I was a member of the Outreach Committee. I've recently joined the Resource and Partnership Development Committee for the 2015 year.
I've given workshops on Twine, as both a mentor and a facilitator at York University. I'm looking to expand further with workshops and speaking engagements. My topics of interest include mental health, which my first games Panic Attack! and Borderlines focused on, and also diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility in tech and games culture. I'm currently available for work as a writer, speaker, and Twine or beginner's game making workshop mentor or facilitator.
